Now Hiring: Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager
The City of Pickens is seeking an experienced, dedicated professional to serve as our Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager. This full-time position plays a key role in protecting public health and the environment by making sure the City’s wastewater treatment operations run safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Position Details

- Reports To: Public Works Director
- Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt
- Supervises: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators and other assigned personnel
About the Role
The Plant Manager plans, directs, and supervises daily wastewater treatment activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing daily plant operations, treatment processes, and effluent quality
- Ensuring compliance with the City’s discharge permit and environmental regulations
- Supervising, scheduling, training, and evaluating plant personnel
- Managing preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and facilities
- Assisting with the plant’s operating budget and capital improvement planning
- Maintaining a safe work environment and responding to wastewater emergencies, including after-hours when needed
- Serving as a primary technical resource to City management
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or post-secondary education in wastewater treatment, environmental science, engineering technology, or a related field preferred)
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, including supervisory or lead responsibilities
- Municipal wastewater facility experience preferred
- Must possess or obtain a Class B wastewater treatment operator certification and maintain all required certifications in good standing
