The City of Pickens requires all businesses operating within city limits — including home-based businesses, professional services, contractors, and rental property owners — to maintain a current City of Pickens Business License.

Licenses are issued in accordance with the City’s Business License Ordinance and must be renewed each year.

Annual Filing Requirements

• Due Date: April 30 of each year

• Basis: Calculated on total gross receipts (total revenue before expenses)

• Renewal: A new license must be filed annually, even if there is no change in business activity

• Late Filings: Penalties may apply for licenses filed after the deadline

Rental Property Licenses

Owners of rental property within the city are also required to obtain a Business License. Each property should be reported under the same annual filing deadline and gross-receipts requirements.

The City of Pickens enforces property codes to maintain safety, appearance, and community standards.

General Property Standards:

• Grass and lawns must be kept at 18 inches or less

• Storage of inoperable, untagged, or uninsured vehicles outdoors is prohibited

• Overgrown weeds or shrubbery that may harbor pests or cause infestation are not allowed

Sign Requirements:

• Corrugated plastic signs with wire stakes are not permitted

• All signs require permits through City Hall

• Business signs must be reviewed and approved before installation
