At the Hagood Community Center, our goal is to provide activities and events for all citizens of Pickens. Home to the Pickens Senior Center, Young Appalachian Musicians, and Granger Fiber Arts, there is always something going on to enjoy!

The Senior Citizens of Pickens, Inc. (SCoP)is a non-profit organization that helps seniors in the Pickens area stay active mentally, physically, and socially through fellowship, recreational activities, and communal meals. Founded with the goal of securing a permanent meeting place for local seniors, SCoP achieved this in 2009 when the City of Pickens leased us the former Ben Hagood School. After extensive renovations, the Hagood Community Center now serves both seniors and the broader community.
Membership to the Senior Center is open to any individual 55 or older who resides in Pickens County or the surrounding area. The Center is run by volunteers and receives no subsidies for meals or programs, so the nominal meal cost and annual membership dues help cover our expenses.
Annual Dues:
To become a member, stop by the center Monday, Wednesday, or Friday between 8:30 am and 1:00 pm.
The Center is operated 100% by our wonderful team of volunteers and we are always in need of kitchen volunteers including meal planners, meal preparers, meal servers, and clean up crew members. Must be at least 18 years old to volunteer. Please stop in and see Debbie any weekday morning between 9:00 and 11:00 to arrange volunteer opportunities.

Young Appalachian Musicians introduces children and adults to the music of their heritage through small group instruction. Local traditional musicians teach students to play time-honored music on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and banjo by ear – the traditional way. Granger Fiber Arts offers the ability to learn the craftsmanship that has been passed down from generation to generation. The Pickens Community Center offers classes that will teach you sewing, quilting, knitting, rug hooking, felting, and braiding.
Need a great place to hold an event? The Hagood Community Center is a a great venue for weddings, showers, birthday parties, meetings, and more! The rates are much more reasonable than traditional venues and we have a variety of room sizes and types, including a state of the art auditorium, and plenty of parking.
