Get Outside and Enjoy Pickens

The Doodle Trail

The Doodle Trail, which begins at Address: 409 E. Cedar Rock Street Pickens, SC 29671, is a 7.5 mile rails-to-trails partnership between the City of Easley and the City of Pickens. The multi-use trail is open from dawn to dusk for biking, walking, running and rollerblading.

In 1890, the State of South Carolina issued a charter for the construction of a railroad between Easley and Oolenoy Gap, by way of Pickens. It became operational in 1898 and until 2013, the Doodle Line hauled a variety of commodities to and from Pickens and Easley, including food products, textiles, and automobile parts. Local residents nicknamed the railroad the “Pickens Doodle” line, because the freight engine could not be turned around and had to run backwards from Easley to Pickens, looking like a doodlebug.

The Town Creek Bike Park (located at 545 State Road S-39-190, Pickens SC 29671) is a premier off-road bicycling facility that is free to the public. The park is nearly 100 acres and located just one mile from historic downtown Pickens.

Town Creek Bike Park (TCBP) has an 8-foot wide paved trail called the “Appalachian Lumber Greenway” that follows most of the existing trail along the historic Appalachian Lumber Company railroad route. It provides a multi-use and ADA accessible path between the Pickens Recreation Center and the Playground of Promise.

TCBP is one of the first bike parks in the state that offers unique riding features designed to enhance the riders experience through education, challenge and environmental awareness.
